January 1 really is New Hampshire's loss-cost year. The New Hampshire Insurance Department announced on August 6, 2025 that it had approved the NCCI filing reducing voluntary loss costs by an average of 6.1% and assigned-risk rates by 5.4%, and said the new rates "will apply to policies effective on or after January 1, 2026". That is the fourteenth consecutive annual reduction, a streak the Department puts at a cumulative decrease of more than 66%. The 2026 filing also moved New Hampshire loss costs to three decimal places.
New Hampshire requires all employers to carry workers' comp. Rates are moderately above the national average.
